Trinseo to Introduce Flame-Retardant Resins without PFAS at CHINAPLAS 2024

Author:

Trinseo, a specialty material solutions provider, has announced its new offering of flame-retardant resins that are manufactured without the use of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) or halogenated additives. The new products, EMERGE™ PC 8600PV and 8600PR resins, as well as EMERGE™ PC/ABS 7360E65 resins, address the increasing demand and regulatory pressures to reduce the use of PFASs, especially in the consumer electronics and electrical industries.

PFAS chemicals are commonly used for their flame-retardant properties and resistance to heat, oil, stain, grease, and water. However, Trinseo’s innovative resins maintain those critical performance attributes while eliminating the need for PFASs, making them a sustainable alternative.

The EMERGE™ 8600PR and EMERGE™ 7360E65 resins also incorporate post-consumer recycled (PCR) substrates, further enhancing their sustainability. These resins provide excellent dimensional stability, superior impact resistance, and UV resistance, making them suitable for applications in IT equipment, electronic and electrical products, battery chargers, and voltage stabilizers.

Trinseo’s new products will be first launched in the Asia-Pacific market and will be showcased at CHINAPLAS 2024. The company is committed to developing sustainably advantaged solutions and believes that sustainable products are the future.

Trinseo’s booth at CHINAPLAS 2024 will be located at F52, Hall 6.2 in the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai.

Trinseo, a specialty material solutions provider, operates in the chemical industry, specifically in the production of flame-retardant resins. The company has recently introduced a new line of products that are free from per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and halogenated additives.

The consumer electronics and electrical industries are the main sectors that drive the demand for flame-retardant materials. These industries require materials that can withstand high temperatures, resist stains, grease, and water. Traditionally, PFAS chemicals have been used to meet these requirements. However, due to increasing awareness of their potential environmental and health impacts, there is a growing need to reduce the use of PFASs.

Trinseo’s innovative resins, namely the EMERGE™ PC 8600PV and 8600PR resins, as well as EMERGE™ PC/ABS 7360E65 resins, provide a sustainable alternative by eliminating the need for PFASs. These resins maintain the critical performance attributes of flame retardancy and resistance to heat, oil, stain, grease, and water.

In addition to being PFAS-free, Trinseo’s resins also incorporate post-consumer recycled (PCR) substrates. This further enhances their sustainability and aligns with the growing demand for eco-friendly materials in the market.

The EMERGE™ 8600PR and EMERGE™ 7360E65 resins offer excellent dimensional stability, superior impact resistance, and UV resistance. These properties make them suitable for a wide range of applications in IT equipment, electronic and electrical products, battery chargers, and voltage stabilizers.

Trinseo plans to first launch these new products in the Asia-Pacific market and will showcase them at CHINAPLAS 2024, a premier trade fair for the plastics and rubber industries. The company’s commitment to developing sustainably advantaged solutions reflects their belief that sustainable products are the future.
