Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell has been announced as the keynote speaker for New England Law | Boston’s 113th Commencement ceremony on May 17 in Boston.
Growing up in Boston’s Roxbury neighborhood, Attorney General Campbell overcame significant adversity at a young age. Losing her mother in a tragic car accident when she was just eight months old, Campbell and her siblings faced foster care and relied on public housing and food assistance. Despite these challenges, Campbell exhibited resilience and determination, becoming the first in her family to graduate from college and law school. She obtained her degrees from Princeton University and UCLA Law School.
Campbell’s commitment to justice and advocacy led her to work as a legal services attorney for the EdLaw project, where she fought for the rights of children, particularly those with disabilities, and their families. She later served as an employment attorney at Proskauer LLP before transitioning to a role as General Counsel at the Metropolitan Area Planning Commission. In addition, Campbell worked as legal counsel for Governor Deval Patrick, focusing on improving education and transportation systems in Massachusetts.
