PARIS, 12th April 2024 /PRNewswire/ — Huawei successfully organized the IP GALA Summit with the theme “Bring Net5.5G into Reality, Inspire New Growth” during the MPLS SD & AI Net World Congress 2024. The summit brought together representatives from operators, standardization organizations, and industry organizations to discuss key topics such as the deployment of Net5.5G applications, innovation scenarios, and target network architecture. Leading operators such as vivo Brazil, Telecom Argentina, and Algeria Telecom shared their live network applications and innovative practices of key technologies like 400GE, SRv6, Slicing, and Network Digital Map in Net5.5G converged transmission scenarios. This indicates that the deployment of Net5.5 converged transmission is progressing faster to support operators’ new service growth.

Zuo Meng, President of Huawei’s Data Communication Product Line Metro Router Domain, stated that new ultra-broadband applications are constantly evolving and bringing operators new opportunities and challenges. Operators need to build a target network, Net5.5G, to support the extension of 10 Gbps connections for home broadband access, mobile broadband access, enterprise private lines, and enterprise campus services. The entire industry agreed on the accelerated deployment of Net5.5G applications to support operators’ greater business success.

Immersive applications, digitalization, and industrial cloudification, as well as AI-supported applications, are driving continuous bandwidth growth and ultra-broadband connectivity worldwide. Tayeb Ben Meriem, Co-chair of WBBA’s Network Technology Working Group, stated that to cope with such growth, WBBA and its members have raised the Net5.5G initiative, including 10 Gbps areas with Wi-Fi 7, 400GE converged IP traffic, and hyper-converged data center networks for the years 2025-2030.

Leading operators shared their experiences of deploying live networks and innovative practices of key Net5.5G converged transmission technologies. Latin America’s leading carrier, vivo, achieved multi-vendor SRv6 interoperability and successfully deployed SRv6 in a live network in Brazil. Nelson Jose dos Santos Junior, IP Network Specialist at vivo, pointed out that by gradually introducing key technologies for Net5.5G, such as SRv6, 400GE, and network slicing, vivo can improve 5G service provisioning and maintain a competitive edge. Oscar Paniagua, Transmission Network Manager of Telecom Argentina, said that 400GE was deployed in the backbone network to support 5G and home broadband growth. The IP transport network is evolving toward Net5.5G and providing optimal connectivity experience through enhanced network automation, SLA assurance, real-time visualization, and flexible bandwidth options. Mounira Aissa El Bey, Technical Director of Cloud Core and IP Backbone at Algeria Telecom, stated that the goal of the IP transport network is to evolve into a new-generation network with ubiquitous access, intelligent connectivity, ultra-broadband backbone, and segmentation as a service. Through innovative segmentation and network automation practices, SLA assurance is provided for different scenarios to ensure a high-quality experience for customers.

Pietro Cassarà, a researcher from Italy’s National Research Council, highlighted in the Net5.5G network scenario development that key technologies like SRv6 and IFIT-based network segmentation perfectly complement AI-based network digital map to provide guaranteed SLA and automate future network scenarios, such as mesh routing in dynamic topologies in future non-terrestrial networks.

Carsten Rossenhövel, Managing Director of EANTC, an authorized third-party test organization in Europe, shared the progress of multi-vendor interoperability testing in 2024 and briefed on the independent invitation test report of Huawei’s 19.2T boards. This indicates that key Net5.5G features like 400GE, SRv6, and network segmentation are becoming more advanced in terms of interoperability.

Huawei presented the architecture of the Net5.5G converged transmission target network and the line + X private solution. This architecture offers ultra-broadband connectivity, network as a service, high intelligence, and holistic security. The Net5.5G series solutions and products help operators develop comprehensive services and achieve new growth.
