Cato Achieves 10 Gbps Throughput Record Without Hardware Upgrades

Author:

Cato Networks, a leading SASE provider, has set a new record for throughput without any hardware upgrades. The achievement of 10 Gbps was announced at the Porsche Studio Ginza in Tokyo ahead of the 2024 Tokyo E-Prix. Cato’s performance is so powerful that the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team could transfer all the data of an entire Formula E season in under 2.5 hours, instead of the usual 3.5 days. This makes Cato the first SASE platform to compete in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship and deliver such high-performance SASE capabilities.

The increased capacity connections offered by Cato’s SASE Cloud are essential for businesses requiring bandwidth-intensive applications, hybrid cloud connectivity, and large campuses. Cato is introducing 10 Gbps throughput on a single, encrypted tunnel, doubling the performance of its Cato Cloud Interconnect and Cato Socket. The company achieves this without the need for costly hardware upgrades, unlike traditional appliance-based architectures.

Cato handles compute-intensive operations, such as packet encryption/decryption and security inspection, using multiple Cato Single Pass Processing Engine (SPACE) cores. These cores process real-time traffic simultaneously within Cato Points of Presence (PoPs). This parallel processing and optimized network flow within Cato Socket maximizes end-to-end throughput.

In contrast, other SASE solutions, such as virtual machines and appliance-based systems, fall short of Cato’s throughput capabilities. These solutions typically offer under 2 Gbps of throughput for a single tunnel, forcing enterprises to split traffic across multiple tunnels, adding complexity and risk.

The TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team will benefit from Cato’s fast, secure, and reliable access throughout the 2024 Tokyo E-Prix and other Formula E events. Cato’s PoPs in Tokyo, Osaka, and Sapporo ensure uninterrupted access even in regions with limited infrastructure. The addition of a sixth PoP in Sapporo further enhances the reliability and access for Cato customers.

Industry Overview:

Cato Networks operates in the Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) industry. SASE is a cloud-native architecture that combines network security services with wide area networking (WAN) capabilities. This industry is experiencing rapid growth as businesses increasingly adopt cloud-based services and need secure and reliable connections to these services. SASE providers like Cato Networks offer a comprehensive approach to network security and connectivity, catering to the needs of businesses in various sectors.

Market Forecasts:

The SASE market is projected to experience significant growth in the coming years. According to market research firm Gartner, the adoption of SASE services is expected to skyrocket, reaching 40% of enterprises by 2024, up from less than 1% in 2018. This growth is driven by the increasing demand for secure remote access and the need to support hybrid cloud environments. As more businesses embrace digital transformation and prioritize cloud-based solutions, the demand for SASE solutions that can provide secure connectivity across multiple locations is expected to rise.

Industry Challenges:

One of the challenges in the SASE industry is the complexity of securing and optimizing network connections across distributed locations. Businesses need to ensure that their data and applications are protected while maintaining high-performance connectivity. Another challenge is the need for seamless integration with existing network infrastructure and legacy systems. SASE providers must address these challenges to meet the diverse requirements of different industries and organizations.
